About Us

Gardner was founded in July of 1992 as a millwright and industrial construction company.

Among the first projects the company performed was a large conveyor installation for the golf ball manufacturing division of Spalding Sports in Chicopee, Massachusetts.  At the same time we were performing manufacturing facility improvements for Mastex Industries in Holyoke, Massachusetts.  The company began with just four employees and by 1995 we had a staff of 12 – 15 field personnel.  Gardner continued executing projects throughout industrial construction market and also became a turnkey installer of ‘complete / turnkey recycling plants’.  In 1995, the company was bonded and approved for public construction projects.  Gardner constructed its first salt shed storage facility in Granville, Massachusetts.  We are still constructing storage facilities today and have successfully completed over 40 facilities throughout Southern New England.

In 1998, the company performed its first project for Riverside Park, which soon became part of the Six Flags Amusement Corporation.  We completely disassembled and stored an Ilion's Carousel which was manufactured in 1908.  After construction of a new building to accommodate this historic structure, it was reassembled and placed into service.  In subsequent years Gardner erected almost all the new attractions at the Six Flags New England, Agawam, Massachusetts theme park, including the dismantling, transportation, and installation of a roller coaster from Louisville, Kentucky.  Gardner was also responsible for the majority of the work in the construction of the water park at this facility.  We expanded our efforts to other facilities and eventually performed work all over the Eastern United States.

In the public sector, the company continues to successfully complete projects for the United States Postal Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, the University of Massachusetts and several other Municipal, State and Federal agencies.  In 2004, Gardner completed repairs to the concrete deck and waterproofing system for the Duboise Library at UMASS, Amherst, Massachusetts at a total price of $5,600,000 the largest single project completed by the company.

In 2005, after a consolidation of ownership, the name of the company was changed to Gardner Construction & Industrial Services, Inc. to better reflect the nature of our business.  Successful and timely completion of public and private projects continued, including bridge construction, dam repairs, pump station renovations and several large retail projects.  At one point, field personnel totaled almost 40 employee supported by an office staff of eight.

In 2006 a metal fabrication shop was added and continues to be a large part of our current and future business.  Since 2009, we have worked with the Postal Service performing ADA mandated renovations and upgrades to individual post offices throughout New England.  Our metal fabrication shop is one of the many resources we offer our clients in the hydro sector.  We recently fabricated a complex platform system the now provides walking access for Holyoke Gas & Electric at the South Hadley Falls hydroelectric facility.  These platforms offer a level of safety that was unattainable prior to the installation.  We are in the process of installing additional platforms and a custom made eel lift, to assist eels travelling upstream and would otherwise be unable to pass through the dam structure.

In 2011 and 2012, we constructed facilities for the auxiliary high performance computing center for Holyoke Gas & Electric in Holyoke, Massachusetts and MIT from Boston, Massachusetts.   In addition to the previously mentioned projects, Gardner CIS was also awarded a Hydraulics Structures contract and a Service Labor contract by Holyoke Gas & Electric.

2012 through Today- Gardner Construction & Industrial Services Inc. is a leading provider of general contracting services throughout the New England region.  Our focus remains on commercial, retail, government and industrial projects.  Some of our recent customers include: MA Registry of Motor Vehicles, Springfield Public Schools (Administrative Offices), Springfield Police Substation, Luxe Burger, Subway, Borders, Holyoke Gas & Electric, Pyramid Corporation (Holyoke and Hadley Malls), US Coast Guard, US Air Force and many more.
